In August 2004 John Faulkner, Tony Trundle, and Paul Mulligan were invited to perform live on RTEs "seascapes" radio program to celebrate the "Cruinniu Na mBaid" tradtiional boat festival. Although this was the first time they had performed together, it sounded like they had been sailing around the world for years on the same ship, gathering songs as they went. When the Volvo Ocean Race visited Galway in 2009, they were invited to play a concert at the City Museum. They enjoyed the performance so much that they vowed to do it again, and so the band "Passage West" was born.
They perform a varied program of accompanied songs, acapella shantys, and instrumental music, drawn from our rich maritime heritage. They also perform some original songs and tunes inspired by the sea.
